Day 2 of In to the woods was very exciting.
We first walked to Delco Park. It was exhilarating. We had to walk two miles in
the blistering sun, but I had my friends to keep me entertained. When we got to
the park we sat on the picnic table under the shade. An author names Rob Barley came and talked to us about how to writing is everywhere. He said "People see words like bricks. Stack them up to make text, but words are like clay." If we are bored we can make a haiku out of random words we see. A haiku is a short poem in which the first line contains 5 syllables, the second line has 7 syllables, and the third line has 5 syllables. We found three words from a magazine, which he brought, and made a haiku. The haiku that I made is...
I saw a small lake
with beavers and spotted newts
beaver had brown eyes
We then took one sentence and made a conversation between two people using words from a sentence we found in the magazine. The dialogue I made is shown below...
Jeremiah: There are many fishing holes for the herons in the lake
Alana: The herons are getting caught in the nets of the fishers.
Jeremiah: They can die or get hurt.
Alana: Let is help
It is not that good, but I tried to the hardest I could with what was available. I had lots of fun when it came to making a haiku. They are very simple and easy to do, plus they are entertaining and if I was bored. After the author left, we started on the Small World Activity. With the small world activity we had to find a small patch of earth, about a for long, and observe it. Observe the small patch of earth form a standing point of view. Then from a kneeling position and write down the things that you did not notice while you were standing. Then you lie down on your stomach and appreciate the small patch of earth. I picked a place that was half covered by shade and half not. It was nice to see the individual differences. When I was standing I saw yellow and green grass. When I kneeled down I realized the grass was not yellow, but covered in honeysuckle flowers that have fallen from the tree branch shading half of the patch. I also noticed really tiny flowers and three-leaf clovers. After I was done observing my small world, my friends and I walked around the lake and had fun enjoying the calm area we were in. I love going to Delco Park with my friends. It was weird not going to Delco park without my Arab friends because every time I have been there it was because of an Arab community party which are often held at Delco Park. We then walked back to the school and worked on another activity. We each got a Hershey Kiss and used our 5 senses to analyze it. After we analyzed it we made a book in a shape of a Hershey Kiss we put our 5 senses of the kiss in the book. Then we got working on our second blog post. Below is a photo of my friends and I at Delco Park.
