Day 1

Hello, I am Zayneb Moumkine, a ninth grader at Dayton Regional STEM School. Today was the first day of To the Woods STEMmersion. To the Woods is inspired by a quote by Henry David Thoreau which is “I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately.” We went over all of the expectations of this course. After we had finished reading an excerpt from "Looking Around", we did an activity in which we were split into two teams. I was on team one and I liked my team because we really worked well together and collaborated. The objective of the activity was to make it across two poles using four boards. The problem was we had to get our whole team across and we could not touch the floor. Below are some pictures of the activity. After the activity we went lunch after recess. It was nice to see my friends.  When we had finished eating, we got our yoga mats and went to the gym. I was personally very excited to go to do yoga. I have never done yoga before, nor meditation and I wanted to try something new. I even bought a new yoga mat (lavender) for the occasion. Sadly, today the instructor was not available so we couldn't do any yoga. I was disappointed by that, but tomorrow she will be here. Since we could not do any yoga, we just came up with a general list of  how we should behave during the STEMmersion. After that, we went back to our classroom and started working on our first blog.
